What Is Different About Adjunct Voicemail
There are two differences between adjunct faculty voicemail extensions and regular on-campus extensions:
- Your adjunct faculty voicemail extension only goes to voicemail; there is not a “real” telephone that rings when a student dials your extension
- Adjunct faculty voicemail extensions cannot be directly dialed from on-campus just by dialing the extension number; you must first dial x3625 before dialing the voicemail extension number
This second difference is important. For anyone on campus wanting to leave you a message, he or she must first dial x3625 and then dial your voicemail extension number. This only applies to someone who is on campus. From off campus they can dial any of the VSCC telephone numbers and then dial the voicemail extension number.
How You Or Your Students Can Access Your Voicemail
You or your students can call any of the VSCC telephone numbers and then enter your voicemail extension:
- On campus: x3625
- Local number: 452-8600
- Nashville number: 741-3215
- Toll free number: (800) 366-VSCC (8722)
How To Setup Your Voice Mailbox
You must first personalize your greeting. Dial 3625 from on-campus or 452-8600 from off-campus. When the automated attendant message begins, enter 9 and your voicemail extension (for example, if your mailbox number is 3659, you would enter 93659). You will then hear instructions and be prompted to enter information. Simply listen to the instructions and your voice mailbox will be set up in less than a minute.
Some things to remember when setting up your mailbox:
- 1 is yes and 2 is no
- You will be asked to enter a personal security code of 3 to 10 digits. It’s a good idea to already have one in mind before you start your setup.
- Be sure to listen to the entire setup messages. On some entries you must press # to complete the entry.
- You may want your greeting message to be something like this:
This is Susan Smith, adjunct instructor at Volunteer State Community College. Please leave me a message after the sound of the tone and I’ll return your call shortly. If you need immediate assistance please dial the _____ division office at extension _____.
Your message should have an option directing students what to do if they need immediate assistance by providing the name and extension of the division office in which you are teaching. Those numbers are:
| Division Name | Extension Number |
|---|---|
| Allied Health | 3333 |
| Business | 3301 |
| Math and Science | 3261 |
| Social Science and Education | 3231 |
| Humanities | 3201 |
Don’t forget to give your voicemail extension to your students.
Check your voicemail daily.
