Tips for Making the Most of Your Advising Appointment

1. Make an appointment well in advance. 

2. Arrive on time for your appointment.                          

3. Review catalog requirements and schedule of classes before the advising appointment. Write down any questions you may have. 

4. Take appropriate materials with you such as forms, transcript evaluations, catalog, and schedule book.

Follow up on any referrals and recommendations made by your advisor.

Advising Tools

The following tools will help you in the advising process. VSCC Catalog -  The catalog contains important information about college policies and regulations, the requirements for each degree, and course descriptions for each course offered.  The catalog also contains the Student Handbook.  Catalogs are available in the Admissions Office in A-108.

Class Schedule Book  - The Schedule Book is published each semester and contains courses being offered.  The Schedule Book also contains important dates for registration, fee payment, academic calendar, dates for drop/adds, and final exam schedule.  Directions for registration on PRIDE phone system and WEB are also included.

OnCourse Audit  -  The OnCourse audit will provide you with information concerning progress in your degree program.  Included in this report will be courses you have completed and courses still required for your specific major.

Internet  - www.volstate.edu is a great place to find information about Vol State .

Transfer Equivalency Guides -  These guides provide information about transferring courses to other colleges using Vol State course numbers and the transfer college course numbers.
