Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for performing the various clerical activities associated with the job functions of Health Information Management. Attaches records to the correct unit record folder in the proper sequence. Flags and enters deficiencies in the MediTech system. Maintains the computerized chart location system and insures records are signed-out and return to the department. Maintains the accuracy and integrity of the master patient index; insuring patientís have only one medical record number. Releases medical records following established protocols. Completes birth and fetal death certificates as needed.. Files records in terminal digit order in the appropriate locations. Assists with HIM telephone coverage and requested chart pulls for specific reviews.
Job RequirementsPRN, as needed, position. This position will primarily work weekends, but candidates must be available for work during the week as necessary.
Education: High school graduate or GED equivalent required. Associates Degree in Health Information Technology preferred.Additional course work in medical terminology and/or anatomy and physiology desired.
Experience: Must have previous clerical experience. Prior experience in an acute care setting desired.
Skills: Near visual acuity for close paperwork is required. Good motor coordination to operate photocopier, PC, printers, & fax machine. Good hearing ability to operate telephone and assist physicians, office personnel, and general public effectively. Must be able to follow directions and adjust to change. Must have demonstrated typing ability or prior computer experience
