Import Operations

Job DescriptionThe current opening is within the Import Operations Department. The most basic functions of import operations personnel are to secure all necessary import documents for shipments, trace the cargo, clear it through Customs, and ensure delivery to the consignee. Additional duties include requesting and surrender of original bills of lading if needed, and handling payment of freight charges, exam charges, warehouse charges, storage or distress charges, and terminal handling fees in order to fully release the cargo. They will also coordinate examinations or clearances as required by various government agencies. They may arrange special transportation, transloading of cargo, expedited movement, diversions, or marking of cargo. They are responsible for inputting various dates, data, and notes to be sent to the clients to inform them of their cargo status. Direct contact with clients is required via phone, fax, and email in order to request information, answer queries, and provide updates. Direct contact is also required with carriers, truckers, vendors, and various government agencies.

Job Requirements- Accurate keying skills of minimum 8000 keystrokes per hour
- Mid-level proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to interface well with clients, vendors, and co-workers
- Ability to work in a group environment
- Professional demeanor and appearance
- Self motivated and able to function with minimal direct supervision
- Excellent memory skills
- Strong ability to multi-task
- 10-key ability or foreign language skills a plus
