Click here to view the juried pieces for the following Student Shows: Juror’s Statement Carol Mode Many of the works selected for the exhibition show tremendous strength, originality, and commitment. It was a difficult task to select the winners among so many successful pieces. Yet, I feel strongly that after many hours of viewing and selecting, the works of art I chose for the exhibition reveal the seriousness and focus of several students. In the case of a few students, more than one of their works were selected based on the consistent quality and bold concepts. When I placed the many figure drawings along the wall, I was drawn (no punintended) to the fluidity and ease of the gestural marks and the richness and power of the line. Many of these works were impressive in their selective minimalism. Many graphic design projects, especially the selected ones, were ambitious and show great future promise. I enjoyed the opportunity to recognize quality and coherency in these projects. Some pieces showed less risk and inability or uncertainty toward the challenge of developing a coherent idea. All in all, the jurying process is always enjoyable for many reasons: I have the opportunity to work with two faculty professionals whom I admire, and also see the extraordinary efforts by so many talented budding artists. Keep up the hard work. You have great faculty at Volunteer State Art Department. Carol Mode, Artist |
