The Recording Industry Management program at Volunteer State Community College is designed to give students a solid background in recording techniques and the music business from a recording studio perspective. Students learn fundamentals of audio, acoustics and recording. They can take that theory into studio courses, where they record bands and other musical groups.
Recording studios have changed in the last decade. Computer software programs, like Pro-Tools, have had a big impact on recording techniques. The Volunteer State studio is continually updated to provide the latest technology for students. The recording business used to be mainly an apprentice learning process, but in recent years that’s changed.
Middle Tennessee State University has one of the best known four-year programs in the country. The Volunteer State Recording Industry Management program is fully articulated with MTSU, meaning students can get their two year degree at Volunteer State and then continue with a full class transfer for a four-year degree at MTSU.
