As part of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997, the Hope credit and the Lifetime Learning credit are available to persons who pay higher education costs and meet certain qualifications. According to the IRS Tax Guide, these credits are based on the amount of qualified tuition and related expenses paid. Please refer to the IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Higher Education. You may visit the IRS web site at www.irs.ustreas.gov . Please note that Volunteer State cannot provide you with tax advice concerning your eligibility or computation for the tax credits. We can only recommend you consult your tax advisor or the IRS.
The 1098-T Tuition Payments Statement will be mailed by January 30, 2007. To assist in determining eligibility amounts for the tax credits, go to Pride Online , type your Student ID and PIN, then click "Login". Once you are logged in, click on "IRS Form 1098-T Information" under "Student Records". Then select the tax year to view your billing transactions.
