Traffic And Parking Regulations

Students must park in designated parking spaces on the campus of Volunteer State Community College .  Students must park in these areas only or they will be issued a traffic violation.  Each citation for violation of the traffic and parking regulations carries a fine of $10.00, which must be paid to the Business Office of the College.  A $100.00 fine is imposed for unauthorized parking in “Disabled or Handicap” parking spaces.

 The following are examples of citation issuance:

Failure to properly display parking decal, speeding, reckless driving, and failure to yield to pedestrians.

Parking in unauthorized parking areas:

Handicap parking

Fire zones

Loading and unloading zones

Faculty and staff parking areas

Students or employees in Visitors parking areas

Improper parking:

Along painted curbs

In driveways and intersections

On grass or lawns

On roadways

On sidewalks

Double parking

Effective September 1, 2004, all VSCC daytime/evening employees, students, and foundation trustees will display a VSCC parking decal.  There is no fee for student decals and these can be obtained in the Ramer Building, Business office room 181 Monday through Friday 8-430pm, 430-8pm in the Wood Campus Center room 210, and at the following off campus sites - McGavock High School, Hunters Lane High School, Wilson Central High School and VSCC Livingston Center. 

Full time employees will pay a $6.00 annual fee which will received through payroll deduction unless otherwise specified.  Part-time employees and adjunct faculty must purchase their decal in the business office. 

Guest parking permits are available in the Campus Police Department.

Handicapped Parking Placards are available in the Office of Disability Services.  The placards must be placed on the front mirror and are for campus use only.  There is ample handicapped parking for each building.  A handicapped parking list is available from Disability Services. 

Students wishing to appeal a traffic violation must secure an official Traffic Appeal from the Office of the Vice President for Student Services.  The completed form may be returned to the Office of the Vice President of Student Services or submitted in person to the Student Traffic Appeals Committee.

Faculty/Staff wishing to appeal a traffic violation must make their appeal to the Assistant Vice President for Business and Finance.  Appeal forms may be obtained in the Campus Police Office, who will forward the completed form to the Assistant Vice President for Business and Finance.

Visitors to the campus who have been issued a parking violation should contact the Office of the Vice President of Student Services.

A copy of the Traffic and Parking Policy can be obtained from the office of the Vice President of Student Services or the Campus Police Department.  

Skateboards, Roller Skates, Roller Blades, And Bicycles

 No person may skateboard, roller skate or use roller blades or any other similar wheeled device in or on any college buildings, or sidewalks, roadways, or parking areas on college lands, except as specifically authorized in writing by the Chief or the Chief’s designee.  The Campus Police Department will be responsible for enforcement..

 Bicycles in traffic are like automobiles; a cyclist must obey traffic lights and stop signs, hand signals and ride on the right side of the street.  Failure to do so is violation of the law.  Riders must wear a helmet while on campus and if riding at night the bicycle must be equipped with front and rear lights.  Bicycles may be secured in front of the Campus Police Department.
