Health Information Technology — education

Six credits involve putting this new knowledge to work in a professional setting. Volunteer State places HIT students at sites throughout Middle Tennessee for their practical experience. The sites show the diversity of Volunteer State’s clinical partners; once enrolled, students can request a specific site but placement it is not guaranteed.

Vol State’s program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management. Graduates are eligible to take the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam, a recognized national credential. The American Health Information Management Association administers the exam. Accreditation is a process that makes sure college programs meet uniform, professional standards.
