How long does the program take?
Volunteer State offers a two-year program in Medical Laboratory Technology that leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree and includes General Education core courses that must be taken first.
Do I need math?
Yes. Respiratory Care students must at least take College Algebra or Math for Liberal Arts.
How much do Medical Lab Technicians earn?
Pay varies with experience and setting. In Tennessee, new Medical Lab Technicians can earn between $17 and $20 an hour, or between $35,000 and $43,000 a year. In 2007, the median salary for Medical Lab Technicians was $34,300, or $16.48 an hour. The median pay for Tennessee was $30,800 a year, about $14.81 an hour
Is admission automatic if I am interested?
No. Admission is competitive. Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA in core courses and pass a criminal background check. The application deadline is March 15 each year.
How long does the program take?
The Medical Laboratory Technology Program takes two years, including General Education core courses, and leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree.
