- How long does the program take?
- Volunteer State offers a two-year program in Medical Laboratory Technology that leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree and includes General Education core courses that must be taken first.
- Do I need math?
- Yes. Respiratory Care students must at least take College Algebra or Math for Liberal Arts.
- How much do Medical Lab Technicians earn?
- Pay varies with experience and setting. In Tennessee, new Medical Lab Technicians can earn between $17 and $20 an hour, or between $35,000 and $43,000 a year. In 2007, the median salary for Medical Lab Technicians was $34,300, or $16.48 an hour. The median pay for Tennessee was $30,800 a year, about $14.81 an hour
- Is admission automatic if I am interested?
- No. Admission is competitive. Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA in core courses and pass a criminal background check. The application deadline is March 15 each year.
