| A Welcome From The President
Greetings and welcome to another banner year at Volunteer
State Community College, one of the premier colleges in
the state of Tennessee! Volunteer State has a commitment
to provide high-quality academic programs to assist you
in reaching your goals, not only in your educational endeavors,
but also for your career and life plans as well. Volunteer
State is your best source for high quality programs and
services, and will continue to enhance those services as
necessary. It is because of that commitment that our student
enrollment continues to increase.
If you are already a Volunteer State student or have had
the opportunity to visit our campus, I am sure you have
noticed that the College is alive with physical changes.
To accommodate our growing enrollment, we have recently
opened the new John Wallace Health Science Building; made
recent additions to the Hal R. Ramer Administration Building;
recently opened new Video and Commercial Music Studios;
made improvements to the five buildings on what is generally
known as our Campus Annex, which is literally next door
to the main campus; created and improved parking lots; and
will be undergoing another new addition to the Ramer Administration
Building beginning this Spring. As you can see, we continue
to keep our facilities updated in an effort to provide an
attractive and pleasant environment for our students and
our community.
WARREN R. NICHOLS, ED.D. PRESIDENT
However, we do not rest on our superb physical facilities.
Our academic programs are also evolving to keep up with
student demands. Assessment and revisions are constantly
made to ensure that each of our degree programs, certificate
programs, and individual classes meet the requirements of
senior colleges and universities, along with remaining current
in their respective fields--thus enabling our students to
be prepared as they continue their education or move into
the world of work. With an outstanding family of faculty,
staff and administrators who continually work to enhance
their credentials and increase their base of skills and
knowledge, Volunteer State offers you the opportunity to
learn from educators who are the best of the best!
As a Volunteer State student, you are part of a tradition
of success. Our students consistently score above state
and national averages on national exams. And, colleges and
universities across the state report that students who have
attended Volunteer State for two years do as well, and frequently
better, than those students who began at a four year university
as freshmen.
We are here to help you achieve your goals, and we want
Volunteer State Community College to be a positive experience
for you. Whether you are coming to us as a full-time or
part-time student, taking day and/ or evening classes, distance
education classes, classes by video or internet, or taking
a non-credit course for personal enrichment at the main
campus or one of our off-campus sites, I am sure you will
find that our motto is correct, Volunteer State is "a
step in the right direction!" I wish you much success.
