Directions
Directions is Volunteer State Community College’s New Student Success Orientation Program designed to teach you what you need to know about starting college, getting classes scheduled and paid for, buying books and just generally knowing what is going on. Beginning college can be exciting and scary at the same time. That is why we have designed a program that will ease the transition from high school or the work-force into Vol State. There is so much to know about how to make it from one step to the next — everyone needs at least a little help.
So, let's get started!
- All students should first start out their college experience by visiting www.volstate.edu/Welcome. This gives students a step-by-step checklist to go by to help make your transition into the college smooth.
- All students should first log in to their Vol State student email account by accessing the MyVOLSTATE portal. Log in information is located inside your Welcome Letter. Problems with logging in, please contact the IT Help Desk at 615-230-3302.
All new Vol State students who are seeking a degree or certificate are required to participate in DIRECTIONS and speak with an academic advisor before they can register. Checking your student email account will help clear up any questions you might have about Directions: New Student Orientation or any advising requirements.
Directions: New Student Orientation is mandatory for new students and clears the way for new students to register for classes. Directions will be offered on dates that are available throughout the summer for incoming Fall 2012 students to accommodate as many schedules as possible.
- Reservations for orientation are required. We cannot accept walk-in students at this time.
- Reservations should be made in a timely manner—please allow us at least a week to ensure appropriate processing.
- Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to RESERVE your spot for Directions early.
- Orientation dates for the Fall 2012 are scheduled according to your Major/Program of Study and Academic Division. (Refer to your student email regarding this information.)
Students who are readmitting, non-degree seeking, or dual enrolled students are exempt from the mandatory orientation requirement. For more information, please contact the Office of Student Retention at 615-230-3390 or email College.Success@volstate.edu.
