Educational Goals Module
There are many things to know about what kinds of degrees we offer, different divisions that are on campus and what they represent, as well as what the catalog can do for you. In this section get ready to learn this and more about what it takes to get a degree.
Degree Programs
There are several different degree/certificate options at Vol State:
- Associate of Arts (A.A.) and Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees are two-year degrees that are University Parallel. That means they are intended to transfer to a four-year school and to apply to a bachelors degree.
- An A.A.S, Associate of Applied Science, is a two-year degree that is geared for the student that does not intend to move on to a bachelors granting institution but wants to enter the workforce with a credible degree.
- Certificate programs are not degrees. They provide students with course work that can help them qualify for various positions in the workforce.
Placement
Every degree seeking student is required to take a placement test. If the student is under 21, then that test is the ACT. If the student is 21 or over and does not have transfer credit exempting him/her, that student can schedule an COMPASS placement test in the Testing Center. Call the Advising Center first at (615) 230 - 3702 for more information.
