Workshops will help prepare students for online classes at Vol State

Online learning is a different approach to taking a college class and often students need some help getting started. Volunteer State has set up workshops to help new online students become familiar with the system, and ask questions in person. They'll be held at the Volunteer State campus, 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin, on the following dates:

August 28

  • 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Rochelle Center in the Thigpen Library.

August 29

  • 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Rochelle Center in the Thigpen Library.

September 1

  • 8:00 - 8:50 a.m. Rochelle Center in the Thigpen Library.
  • 9:00 - 9:50 a.m. Rochelle Center in the Thigpen Library.
  • 10:00 - 10:50 a.m. Room L-115 in the Thigpen Library. (With Internal Television connection to Livingston)
  • 11:00 - 11:50 a.m. Room L-115 in the Thigpen Library. (With Internal Television connection to Livingston)

Livingston students should visit the front desk in Livingston for information on where the ITV connection can be viewed on September 1.

Students will be introduced to My Volstate Online, how to log in to their courses, basic course set up and navigation and helpful tips. We encourage students to pre-register by contacting Peggy Watson (peggy.watson@volstate.edu); however, pre-registration is not required to attend these sessions.

Volunteer State offers entire degree programs in a number of subjects including Business and Commerce, Foreign Languages, Liberal Arts, University Studies, Mathematics & Science, Economics, Psychology, Secondary Education, Social Science & Education. Certificates are offered online in Fire Science and Sleep Diagnostics. Volunteer State also works in conjunction with the Regents Online Degree Program, which offers dozens of degrees and hundreds of classes utilizing the combined resources of all the Tennessee Board of Regent universities and community colleges.

Some students want to combine the flexibility of online learning with classroom instruction. These courses have 25 percent of instruction in the classroom for one evening each week and 75 percent of instruction online.
