I. Federal and State Aid

Apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov

If you are a dependent student, your parents should also apply for a PIN so they can electronically sign your FAFSA

Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

FAFSA Follow-UP

You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) Information Acknowledgement in the mail about two weeks after submitting your online FAFSA. Review all of your answers to make sure they are right.

II. Scholarships

Listed inside this brochure are the various scholarships which are funded through the College Foundation by private donations from companies and individuals. Generally based on need and/or academic achievement, requirements vary.

Select "Scholarships and Fee Waiver Forms"

Select the online 2005-2006 Scholarships Application and submit your application electronically

III. Other Requirements for Federal and State Aid

You must have applied for admission to VSCC

A completed high school transcript or GED scores must be on file with VSCC’s Records Office

A declared major is required — "undecided" is not a major

A classification of Degree Seeking or Transfer Student is required

IV. Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program

The Tennessee Education Lottery Program is for Tennessee high school graduates who have an ACT score of 21 or higher or an unweighted high school grade point average of 3.0 and attend an eligible Tennessee college/university. Students must also submit a FAFSA to determine their eligibility.

Federal Aid

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is a federally funded program designed to provide financial assistance to students who need financial aid to attend post-high school educational institutions. The amount of the actual grant is based upon family contributions as determined by the contractor for the federal government.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program is a federally subsidized program, whereby direct gift aid is awarded to undergraduate students with the lowest EFC and as determined by the FAFSA.

Federal Family Education Loan Programs

A Federal Stafford Loan is a variable low-interest loan made to students by a lender to help pay for their education after high school. These loans come in two types: Subsidized – where the government pays the interest while the student is in school deferment and grace period; Unsubsidized – where the student has to pay their own interest while in school, deferment and grace period.

A Federal PLUS Loan provides a source of loan funds to the parents of dependent undergraduate students. Parents can borrow up to the cost of attendance minus other financial aid for each undergraduate dependent child.

Federal Work-Study Program

The Federal Work-Study Program is a federally funded program to provide funds for the employment of student who demonstrate need of these funds in order to continue their education. To be eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program, a student must be accepted for enrollment and must maintain satisfactory progress and complete a FAFSA application.

State Aid

Tennessee Student Assistance Awards

The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation also supplies a non-repayable grant for undergraduate Tennessee residents.

Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program

All entering freshmen (Class of 2005) who are Tennessee residents for one year prior to application and who will be enrolling in a Tennessee public or private SACS accredited college/university will be considered for Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship funds.

TBR Employee Dependent Discount

Employees of the TBR of UT schools dependents (children under the age of 26, or spouse) are eligible to receive a 50% discount on the registration maintenance fees.

Public School Teacher/State Employee Dependent Discount

Dependent children, under the age of 24, of a certified public school teacher or a full-time state employee are eligible for a 25% discount on their maintenance fees.

Institutional Aid

Administrative Grant

The Administrative Grant is a program for African American students who do not qualify for enough Pell Grant funds to cover tuition and book expenses. The Administrative Grant covers in-state registration fees and provides a book allotment.

VSCC Academic Service Scholarship (80 Awards)

$1500 scholarship granted on the basis of academic achievement. Recipients must work 75 hours per semester on campus.

VSCC Departmental Academic Service Scholarships (43 Awards)

$1500 scholarship granted on the basis of academic achievement and selected by the VSCC Division Deans. A 75 hour per semester work obligation is required in the department which selected the students.
