Emergency Procedures for Accidents to Students
Injury/illness occurring on Volunteer State Main Campus
In the event of an injury or sudden illness, the nurse and/or Campus Police Officer will be notified and assess the condition of the injured person. The nurse can be reached by phone 230-3470. Campus Police can be reached by dialing 230-3595.
In response to a serious accident or illness, the Community emergency Medical Service (9-911) WILL BE ACTIVATED and the student will be transported to the nearest emergency facility. A parent, spouse of guardian will be notified without delay. The student or responsible person must pay expenses for the ambulance, hospital, physician, medical procedures and/or health care related to the accident/illness. The student is encouraged to complete an accident report and return it to Health Services. The student who seeks further compensation may obtain the form from Health Services, which the student will submit to the State Board of Claims.
Injury/illness occurring at off campus sites
If a minor injury/illness occurs at an off campus site and a nurse or Campus Police Officer is not on location, the site Director or instructor will be the designated person to notify parent, spouse, or designate a person to drive the student home, to a medical facility or private physician. The student is encouraged to complete and accident report and return it to Health Services.
In case of a serous injury/illness, the site Director or instructor will determine the necessity to activate the Community Emergency Medical Service (9-911). The parent, spouse, or legal guardian will be notified without delay. The student or responsible person must cover all medical expenses. The student is encouraged to complete an accident report and return it to Health Services.
