February 2008
Billie Butler and Natasha Brooks were selected as Volunteer State Community College’s All-USA Academic Team students for the 2007 - 2008 academic year. On February 12, the two students attended a luncheon at the Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville for all of Tennessee’s two year college candidates. All of the students’ state representatives were invited to the luncheon, and they had their picture taken with Governor Bredeson on the steps of the Capitol Building.
Ms Butler and Ms Brooks were chosen for this honor because of their high academic achievements and levels of college and community service. Billie and Natasha were President Ambassadors while at Volunteer State Community College, Natasha was also the President of Phi Theta Kappa, and each were involved in a number of campus activities. Ms Butler is an Honors program student who will be pursuing her degree in education at Tennessee Tech University. Ms Brooks has decided to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at either ETSU or the University of Memphis. Both students will receive a full two year scholarship at their transfer universities. They are also in the running for a Century Scholarship and a place on the All-USA Academic Team, which will be announced by early April.
