In nearly all instances, punctuation marks, except for quotation marks, go AFTER a parenthetical citation. The most common exception is when placing a citation at the end of a block quotation. In such cases, the punctuation belongs at the end of the quotation, NOT after the citation (i.e., there is no punctuation after the parenthetical citation).
