To create the first part of an entry for an article retrieved from an electronic database, follow the guidelines for magazines, newspaper, or journal articles. Complete the entry by adding the following information in the order given. See the samples for the appropriate punctuation.

Title of database.

Name of the subscription service.

The name and city of the library which subscribes to the service.

Date of access.

URL of the homepage of the subscription service in angle brackets.
Periodical information.Title of database. Name of subscription service. Name of library, city of library. Access date <URL of the homepage of the subscription service>.

Note: Be careful not to confuse the subscription service and database; a subscription service often includes a number of databases. Some common subscription services are InfoTrac, Proquest, CQPress, and Opposing Viewpoints. If you access any of these subscription services through the Volunteer State Community College Library, you may use the following URLs for the last item in your Works Cited entry (i.e. the URL of the homepage of the subscription service).
