Surviving Science is a program developed by student Michelle M. Cooper in conjunction with theÊ Volunteer State Community College Science Department to assist all students in achieving success in any course, but particularly a science class, where the rules of survival are a little different. The program aims to teach all students how to teach themselves, by providing them with the tools they need, rather than just the answers. As any scientist knows, simply being told something is so is not enough. She is forever compelled to discover that truth for herself. Surviving Science hopefully inspires the non-science major struggling through Intro to Biology to realize that science is within his reach, and to inspire him to maintain an interest in searching for the answers. After all, science is an undeniable part of everyday life, and it is much less scary when it is familiar.
