Medical Practice Management
The medical practice business can be complex. Employees in insurance, reimbursement, scheduling, classification systems and physician referrals must know standard processes and be familiar with a wide range of medical terms and procedures in order to do their jobs efficiently.
By completing the General Business Administration associate degree with a concentration in Medical Practice Management, graduates will be eligible take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) and the Certified Patient Account Representative (C-PAR) examinations. Vol State’s degree requirements also include a work experience component in a medical practice setting where students can gain practical experience.

This concentration aims is to prepare individuals for on-site careers supporting medical-related business operations for doctors, dentists, or other licensed medical professionals. Managing insurance records, patient billing, appointment scheduling, and patient relations are all part of the job. Graduates qualify for several professional certifications in coding and reimbursement. Students interested in this concentration must schedule an advisement session. Specific program courses are scheduled on a rotating basis.
Degree Advancement Program Agreement with MTSU
MTSU and Vol State have developed an AAS-to-BS program to allow students who earn an Associate of Applied Science in General Business Administration with a concentration in Medical Practice Management at Vol State to transfer the majority of those credits to MTSU toward the completion of a Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. This degree is offered through MTSU’s University College in cooperation with the Tennessee Board of Regents.
