
If You Are A Victim Of Domestic Violence
IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, you can ask the District Attorney General to file a criminal complaint. You also have the right to go to the court having jurisdiction over domestic relations and file a petition requesting an order for protection from domestic abuse, which could include the following:
A) An order restraining the abuser from further acts of abuse;
B) An order directing the abuser to leave your household;
C) An order preventing the abuser from harassing you or coming about you for any reason;
D) An order awarding you or the other parent custody of or visitation with your minor child or children; and
E) An order directing the abuser to pay support to you and the minor children if the abuser has a legal obligation to do so.
F) Domestic Violence / Order of Protection Escorts Escorts of the nature are to be performed by certified police officers when available.
*All Public Safety personnel on duty are to be made aware of any prior assaults, stalking attempt, and the criminal / psychological background of the domestic offender, prior to escort service. When conducting escorts of this nature two (2) officers should escort the victim, if it is a two (2) man shift, advise the other officer of the nature of the escort, location and the dispatcher. Verify order of protection and no-contact orders.
It is also permissible for you to make a citizens arrest of the assailant and have them transported.
