III:15:01 A89 Requirements

In compliance with the State University and Community College System of Tennessee admissions requirements effective Fall 1989, Volunteer State Community College recommends that students entering transfer degree programs submit high school transcripts that reflect completion of the following high school subject units:

English 4 units
Algebra 1 unit
Algebra II 1 unit
Geometry 1 unit
Natural/Physical Sciences 2 units
(1 unit must be a laboratory course in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
U.S. History 1 unit
Social Studies 1 unit
A single Foreign Language 2 units
Visual/Performing Arts 1 unit (Beginning 1993)

A deficiency in any one of these high school subject units should be removed prior to graduation from Volunteer State Community College. A deficiency in any one of these high school subjects must be removed prior to graduating from a Tennessee Board of Regents university.

Volunteer State Community College requires that students entering a transfer degree program demonstrate acceptable levels of proficiency on the required placement test and/or ACT test. If the placement test and/or ACT scores are below an acceptable level, students must remove the deficiency by completing designated courses according to the testing/placement requirements of the College.

Transfer students pursuing university parallel degrees who graduated from high school or received a GED diploma prior to 1989 will be exempt from high school unit requirements. Transfer students pursuing university parallel degrees who graduated from high school or received a GED diploma in 1989 or thereafter, with 60 or more transferable college-level semester hours, are eligible for degree admission without regard to minimum high school unit requirements.

Transfer students pursuing university parallel degrees with 59 or fewer semester hours of college-level transfer work who graduated from high school or received a GED diploma in 1989 or thereafter with high school unit deficiencies are eligible for admission; however, any high school unit deficiencies should be removed prior to graduation from Volunteer State Community College. A deficiency in anyone of these high school subjects must be removed prior to graduating from a Tennessee Board of Regents university.
