Dr. Warren Nichols, President Volunteer State Community College

Warren R. Nichols, President, Volunteer State Community College , Gallatin , Tennessee , became its Second President on February 1, 2003 .  Dr. Nichols is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Houston, a master of arts in criminal justice administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, a bachelor of science in criminal justice, also from UT Arlington, and an associate in law enforcement from Tarrant County Junior College in Hurst, Texas. 

Prior to his community college presidency, Dr. Nichols served for over three years as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Darton College , in Albany Georgia .  Under his direction, Darton College ’s enrollment increased by over 20 per cent in three years, and became a leader in distance education, with more than 1500 students enrolled in over 30 different distance learning classes per semester.  Dr. Nichols was also instrumental in co-authoring and supervising five grants totaling over $2.8 million dollars, creating four off-campus nursing programs, and establishing an off-campus center with over $150,000 in funding coming from the local Chamber of Commerce and city leaders.

Prior to Darton College he served as founding associate dean of social and behavioral sciences and public service at Montgomery College in Texas , and earlier was chair of the department of public service and technology at The Victoria College in Texas .  At Victoria College , he also served as a criminal justice instructor and Director of the Regional Law Enforcement Academy for 13 years.  Before beginning his community college career with Victoria College , Dr. Nichols served for 10 years as a police officer in Arlington , Texas .

Dr. Nichols has published numerous articles and is a regular speaker at national conferences on workforce development and educational issues.  He is listed in the International Who’s Who of Professionals and is a certified Tactical Police Pursuit Instructor, a National Rifle Association Police Firearms Instructor, a Rotarian, and a member of Board of Directors of Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce in Hendersonville , TN.
