New HCA Partnership offers a pipeline into the medical workforce
Healthcare reimbursement is one of the fastest growing job segments in the country. The need for qualified accounts receivable specialists has lead to a unique new partnership between HCA and Volunteer State Community College. Students can take one class with Volunteer State and are guaranteed an interview with HCA, the nation’s leading provider of health care services.
Healthcare Reimbursement is the backbone of the business office for hospitals and physician groups. There are more than 2,000 accounts receivable jobs in the Nashville area. Starting pay for specialists is $12 an hour and higher.
“Currently, it’s all too common for several of our offices to compete for the same candidates,” said Barry Guidry, CEO of HCA Medicare Service Centers. “This program will help us expand the pool of potential employees and it will significantly decrease the amount of training new employees need to receive.”
Only one class is needed to become qualified for accounts receivable positions. Beginning this fall, Volunteer State is offering that class at three locations: the Main Campus in Gallatin, the McGavock High School Center and Hunter’s Lane High School. The class meets one night each week.
“Accounts receivable management has become a very complex profession,” said Guidry. “As a result the necessary training has increased.”
But as the need for training increases, so will the possibilities for trained specialists.
“Within our company, and particularly in the Nashville area,” Guidry added. “I expect the job opportunities to continue to grow.”
HCA operates 190 hospitals and 91 out patient surgery centers in 23 states. HCA and its affiliates employ approximately 190,000 people.
