Volunteer State Community College

Regents Online Degree Program (RODP)

Thank you for your interest in RODP at Volunteer State Community College.  These online classes provide students the opportunity to continue or complete their education at a time that is convenient to their individual schedule.

Student Engagement/Attendance Reporting

RODP recently modified the student engagement report in response to new federal requirements. Students will only be counted as engaged if they actively participate in the course. No longer will logging in to the system constitute participation.

RODP will place a news item at the top of every course homepage in the D2L system. The survey asks 3 questions; have you read the syllabus, have you read the student conduct policy, and have you read the academic misconduct policy. This non-graded survey will allow students to engage even if the instructor has no early requirements to use the other tools.

Textbooks

Textbooks for Regents Online classes must be ordered through the Regents Online Virtual Bookstore. They are not available at the Volunteer State Community College campus bookstore.  You are responsible for purchasing your textbooks in a timely manner to ensure you are prepared and ready to participate in your class the first day. Several classes have an access code or other software that is bundled with the textbook.  For specific questions about RODP textbooks and supplies, please call (888) 251 - 2665.

Course Schedule

The most up-to-date information is available on the Course Listings page at the Regents Online website.  Clicking on a course title will display its syllabus.

Logging in to Class

Please note: Students will not have access to login to their classes until the published date that classes begin.  Spring 2013 classes begin on January 17, 2013.  Course access is generally available after 6:00 pm.

The Regents Online course portal is located at elearn.rodp.org.

  • Your username is the first initial of your first name and full last name followed by the first four digits of your birth date. There are no spaces and no periods. If your last name is hyphenated it will be your entire last name including the hyphen.
  • If you have never taken an RODP course before, your password will be your six-digit birth date.  For example, John Smith is a student whose birthday is February 22, 1992. John’s username is jsmith0222 and his password is 022292.
  • After your first login, you should change your password to something more secure.  If you have taken RODP classes before, your password will be the password that you used previously.

Attendance Verification

You can verify that your attendance has been reported via Pride Online. Log in to your PRIDE Online account, select “Student”, then “Student Records”, then “Attendance Reporting”.  Next, select the current term. Please do not call the campus to state that you have logged in to your course(s); that information will come to Vol State from the Tennessee Board of Regents once you have completed the 3-question survey for each of your courses.

Online Tutoring Services

Tutoring and writing assistance for your online assignments is available by visiting smarthinking.com. The Tennessee Board of Regents also provides an online tutorial for using this service.

Financial Aid

The report on your engagement (attendance) in Regents Online courses is an automatic data extraction. When you enter your course(s) for the first time and answer the three survey questions mentioned in the “Student Engagement/Attendance Reporting” section above, a record is made automatically. That information is provided to Vol State’s Financial Aid Office after the 4th, 9th and 15th class meeting dates. The instructor does not report your attendance in Regents Online courses.

Midterm & Final Test Proctoring

Check the syllabus the first day you login to see if the midterm and/or final exam must be proctored. If so:

  • Do not call the Vol State Testing Center.  You MUST go to the Testing Center website at www.volstate.edu/testing and select the RODP and Exit Exam Scheduling link on the left side of the page (NOT the VSCC Online Exam Scheduling).
  • If you have taken RODP courses before and have scheduled proctored exams during a previous semester, you may login with the same username and password you used then.
  • If this is your first time scheduling an RODP proctored exam, click the Register box, complete the required information, and click Submit to proceed.
  • At the "Select Test" drop-down menu, you will select "RODP - Volunteer State Community College".  You will not see your actual course name.
  • Monthly calendars will appear on the next screen.  Click on the date that you want.
  • You will then be able to select the time that you want on that date and then finalize your appointment.
  • Once you have scheduled a date and time for your exam(s), you will receive a confirmation email of your appointment(s) and also an email reminder two days prior.  If your instructors require notification of your scheduled appointment, forward your confirmation email to them.
