Shannon White of Mt. Juliet has been named to the USA Today Community College All-Academic Team. The Volunteer State Community College graduate received the honor at the American Association of Community Colleges conference in Seattle. USA Today's All-USA Community College Academic Team is an annual award recognizing student excellence. More than 1,500 students, representing 856 community colleges across 48 states, Guam and American Samoa, were nominated this year for the award, which looks at leadership, service and academic excellence. Team members receive a $2,500 check from USA Today.

White was also recently named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Tennessee Academic Team. Phi Theta Kappa is the academic honors society for Vol State. White will officially graduate from Vol State on May 8. She has continued her education to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Asian studies and international trade, transferring to the University of Memphis on a full scholarship. While attending Vol State White worked with student organizations on campus, won several leadership awards, and participated as a guest speaker at international education events.
