Children’s Play: “Scary Pirate in the Land of Ma”

A scene from the play Singing and dancing lizards, troublemaking islanders and a not so scary, scary pirate, are just a few of the fun things in the Volunteer State Community College production “Scary Pirate in the Land of Ma”. The children’s play is about more than just laughs and entertainment. There is also a message about standing up to bullies and helping other people do so. The play was written by Vol State associate professor, Edmon Thomas. He also directs the performance, which features Vol State student actors. They will present the play in special invitation-only shows to area elementary schools in February. However, on February 28 at 7:30 p.m. there will also be a public performance for parents and kids to attend. There is a suggested donation of $5 for adults and kids can attend for free. Proceeds go to fund student scholarships. The play will be held in the Wemyss Auditorium at Caudill Hall on the Vol State campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin.
