It’s a musical that launched a timeless song and won a host of awards while on Broadway and now “Man of La Mancha” comes to the stage at Volunteer State Community College. “The Impossible Dream” is just one of the popular songs from the production. It will be presented by the Vol State Theater Department, featuring students and community members.
“Man of La Mancha” is based on the classic novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. In the musical, Cervantes is in prison and conjures up a way to escape. He does so by taking on the identity of Don Quixote and adventures soon follow. An evil magician, love and swordplay are all elements of the show, which won five Tony awards during the Broadway premier in 1965.
“Man of La Mancha” will be presented on March 31, April 1 and April 2 at 7:30 p.m. and April 3 at 2:30 p.m. It will be held in the auditorium at Caudill Hall on the Vol State campus at 1480 Nashville Pike in Gallatin. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door to fund student scholarships. For more information call 615-230-3201.
