The Volunteer State Community College Softball team is the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Region Seven Champion, after defeating Chattanooga State Community College in the finals Wednesday. The Vol State Lady Pioneers battled through three games in one day, before beating Chattanooga State 6-1 in the final. This is the first time in the history of Vol State softball that it has won the Region Seven Championship. The team, under the leadership of Head Coach Johnny Lynn and Assistant Coach Jimmy Buckner, now heads to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division One National Championship Softball Tournament in St. George, Utah. Play starts on May 19.
“Katie Pfost was on her ‘A’ game yesterday for both hitting and pitching,” said Coach Lynn. “She has been good for the league and the college.”
“Yesterday was one of the gutsiest efforts I have ever seen from a team,” said Vol State Athletic Director Bobby Hudson.
“We’re so proud of our softball players and coaches. To have three games in one day and come out as Region Seven champions is a great accomplishment,” Vol State President Dr. Warren Nichols said. “We’ll be cheering on the team as they head to the national championship. Go Pioneers!”
