It’s a unique educational partnership that marks years of planning and development. On Monday the lease agreement was signed for the new Robertson County-Springfield Learning Center, which will offer classes and programs from Volunteer State Community College and Austin Peay State University. Robertson County, the City of Springfield, and NorthCrest Medical Center worked together to provide funding for the center. Residents approved the funding in a referendum vote. Landowners Billy and Jean Batson donated the property for the site. Construction is expected to start in February with completion in the summer of 2011. The 25,000 square foot facility will be two stories tall and feature classrooms, labs, offices, a library and bookstore.
Signatories and attorneys met at the Robertson County Courthouse for the lease signing: Billy and Jean Batson, Springfield Mayor Billy Carneal, Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley, NorthCrest Medical Center President and CEO Scott Raynes, Volunteer State Community College President Dr. Warren Nichols, Austin Peay State University Provost Dr. Tristan Denley, Attorney Bill Goodman, Springfield City Attorney Jim Balthrop, Robertson County Attorney Clyde Richert, and Austin Peay State University Vice President for Legal Affairs and Strategic Planning Richard Jackson.
