Tennessee state senators Kerry Roberts and Mae Beavers recently honored Volunteer State Community College students who worked on the award-winning Pioneer student magazine. They presented the students with a resolution from the legislature, sponsored by Senator Roberts and co-sponsored by Senator Beavers. The resolution recognized the students, and faculty advisor Clay Scott, for being selected as National Finalist in the “Best Magazine” category of the 2010 Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards.
“This school is a great resource and the more we can do in the legislative body to highlight the achievements of the college, the better,” said Senator Roberts.
The Pioneer is produced twice each year and is written, edited and produced entirely by Vol State students.
