The Staff Council at Volunteer State Community College donated food collected during a week-long food drive to Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency on Small Street in Gallatin April 16. Staff Council Representatives Karen Waller and Holly Nimmo transported 47 boxes, approximately 1,589 food items to the Sumner County MCCAA emergency food pantry after other staff members helped to get all the boxes loaded.
The Staff Council held a contest among the departments and divisions on the campus for who could donate the most. The Division of Social Science and Education won a pizza party with their winning donation of 621 items.
The food donated will help to stock bare shelves at MCCAA’s food pantry, which is a part of its nutrition program. This program provides nutrition-themed classes and materials to educate people to make nutritious food choices and wiser purchases with food stamps along with teaching people to grow their own gardens.
