A2 Admission Assessment
The A2 Admission Assessment is required for admission to the ADN program in the TSU School of Nursing. The A2 Admission Assessment is published by Evolve /Elsevier and is sometimes referred to as the HESI Entrance Test. The A2 Admission Assessment includes many parts, however, the parts you are required to take depend on the program to which you are applying.

Individual parts of the A2 Admission Assessment are not timed, however, the total test session is limited to three (3) hours. Examinees are responsible for taking the correct parts of the A2 and adhering to the admission requirements established by the programs and/or schools to which they are applying.

The A2 is administered on the Gallatin campus in the Wood Campus Center, Room 210.
Exam Fee
Total cost of exam is $59. ($34 payable online to Elsevier and a $25 administrative fee paid directly to Vol State.) Exam fees are non-refundable and cannot be used for rescheduling or transferred to another person. Examinees are responsible for selecting the correct test, correct date, and correct time when test fees are paid.

Study guides are available. To purchase by phone call 1-800-401-9962 and request ISBN #9781416056355. To purchase online go to the Evolve Learning Systems student website and type “admission assessment” into the site search window.
Test Registration and Test Fee Payment
There are three steps in the Test Registration and Fee Payment process that you must complete before you can take the A2 Admission Assessment at the Vol State Testing Center. You must begin this process in advance so that there is adequate time for each step and you meet all deadlines. Note that there are seat limits for each test session and test registration is on a first come basis.
- Select Test Date and Pay Registration/Administration Fee:
- Deadline for this step is one week in advance so that there is sufficient time for the other steps in the process.
- Call the Vol State Testing Center at 615-230-3484 and reserve a date and time to take your exam. Pay a $25 administration fee directly to Vol State. Keep your receipt number and bring to the exam with you.
- Create a Student Evolve Account:
- There is no cost for this step.
- Go to http://evolve.elsevier.com/exam and complete the steps to open an Evolve account and get a username and password.
- You must know your evolve username and password when you report to take your exam.
- Payment of Evolve Test Fee:
- Two weeks before the exam you will be emailed a Delivery ID # to pay your exam fee online through Elsevier. This fee is $34 (includes $2 processing fee).
- Follow these procedures to pay the fee:
- Go to http://shopelsevier.com (different website from where you created your account)
- Click on Purchasing Review and Testing
- Under Purchase Exam Code you will see a drop down menu: Begin typing in Tennessee State University-Volunteer State and you should see our site. Click on our site.
- Term: Spring 2011
- Delivery ID: Type in Delivery ID # emailed to you
- Deadline for this step is two days in advance of the test date you scheduled in Step One.
- You will get a receipt by email and you must print this receipt and bring it when you report to take your exam.
On Test Day
- You must report 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.
- You must bring valid, government-issued, photo ID in the same name as your test registration.
- You must bring your receipt for the $25 administrative fee paid to VSCC.
- You must bring your receipt for the $34 exam fee paid to Evolve.
- You must know your Evolve username and password.
If you do not meet one or more of the above requirements, you will not be able to take your exam and you will need to register for a future test date and pay all required fees for that future date.
Score Report
After you complete each part of the test you will see your score for that part of the test. When you complete all parts of the test you will click on Summary Score Report and your Admission Assessment Report will be printed before you leave the Testing Center.
A more detailed score report will be emailed to the address you provided when you create your Evolve account. It may be several weeks before you receive the detailed score report. When you receive your email from Evolve regarding your score report, this also indicates that you can access your Evolve account and order additional score reports.
A2 Admission Assessment Score Reports are available only from Evolve. Score Reports are not available through the Vol State Testing Center.
The test administrators/proctors will not interpret what scores mean or advise students regarding A2 Admission Assessment results. Required scores are determined by each TSU nursing program.
Re-Test
The TSU School of Nursing requires that you wait 30 days before re-taking the A2 Admission Assessment. When you receive your detailed score report from Evolve it will include remediation suggestions that may be helpful as you prepare for re-testing.
