TRIO Student Support Services - Program Services Offered

Our mission is to provide eligible VSCC students increased educational services and activities related to academic support, career development, cultural enrichment, financial planning and personal development which will enhance academic success, retention, graduation and the 4-year college transfer process. Start-to-Finish College Seminar
This noncredit seminar is designed to assist students with college transition, college procedures, academic advising, study skills, financial aid, personal motivation and supportive services.

Individual Tutoring
Limited tutoring services will be available to students based upon needed help in the core academic courses of reading, writing and math or other courses identified.

Cultural Enrichment
Students will have the opportunity to experience cultural activities and trips that will complement the educational experience, give a better global understanding, as well as enlighten and entertain.

Four-Year College Transfer Assistance
Students will complete the Transfer Planning Checklist which includes the transfer admissions process, financial aid, transfer equivalencies, etc. Students will be provided transfer assistance including university tours and opportunities to speak with university faculty.

Financial Aid Planning
Students will be invited to attend workshops offered by TRIO and the Financial Aid Office. Students will receive assistance with financial aid applications, scholarship search and personal budgeting.

Grant Aid
TRIO SSS will award deserving TRIO students (active at least one year) with a limited number of Retention Scholarships.

Academic Advising
Students will receive assistance as needed with course selection to ensure that there is progress with their academic goals through Graduation and Transfer Planning. Priority Registration will be available for all TRIO students.

Technology Access (Laptop Computer, Digital Recorder and/or Calculator Checkout)
Based upon need, students who do not have access to a computer, digital recorder or calculator may have the opportunity to check out a laptop computer for academic related work and assignments.

TRIO Computer Lab
The TRIO Computer Lab located in the TRIO suite is available for student use during business hours (four computers and a printer available). The lab is also used for tutoring space.

GPS (Goal Planning System)
This GPS is designed to assist students with achieving their personal, academic and career goals.

Career Assessments
In addition to the needs assessment, each student will have the opportunity to take the Myers Briggs, Strong Interest Inventory and/or StrengthsQuest. Generated reports will be reviewed with the student.

Resource Center
A TRIO SSS Resource Center will be available for students in the TRIO SSS suite. Items related to career planning, personal growth and academic support will be available.
