School Nutrition Staff

Job DescriptionSchool Nutrition Jobs are located at different locations throughout the county. Each position varies in hours and full and part-time status.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The School Nutrition Staff will have a combination of duties, as outlined below, in the preparation and serving of various foods. In addition, each Staff Worker may be responsible for various cafeteria operational duties. The specific duties of any staff worker will be determined daily by the manager of the School Nutrition Program in each school.

Preparation of all meats in accordance with prescribed menus. This includes, but is not limited to the timely thawing and cooking through the preparation of all related items, (ie. Slicing of cheese for cheeseburgers).

Preparation of all fruits and/or vegetables in accordance with prescribed menus. This includes, but is not limited to the opening of fruits and vegetables, washing of fruits and/or vegetables, opening cans, making Jell-o with fruit and related casseroles.

Preparation of all baked goods weather from scratch or from prepared stock in accordance with prescribed menus. This would include, but is not limited to mixing of ingredients for breads and related deserts, needing and baking.

Cleaning of all dishes, pots and pans in accordance with appropriate health and sanitary standards. This would include, but not be limited to: pulling trays from dish window and running them through dish machine. Washing all silverware and placement of same back in silverware racks. Keeping all pots and pans washed and replaced in proper racks. Keeping dish-room clean.

Operation of a Food Line during serving periods. This would include, but not be limited to, placement of food on the food line in sufficient quantities and at proper intervals to always provide an appetizing selection for the students. Keeping silverware and napkin trays filled. Making sure the food line is clean and neat. Assisting the dish-room staff member when time permits.

Cashier’s shall collect monies or tickets from students, visitors or staff for all items purchased. A reconciliations of funds collected will be made following each meal. The cashiers shall sell meal tickets.




Back-up staff duties shall include the batch cooking of any item needed during lunch (ie. Pizza, fries). In addition, the back-up staff member shall open additional fruits, vegetables or other foods as needed.

In additional to the specific duties outlined above each staff member shall be responsible to clean up after themselves, assist others as time permits, keep trash cans emptied and cleaned, assist in cleaning all kitchen appliances daily and perform other duties needed to promote the effective operation of the cafeteria.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No employees directly supervised. May provide technical advice and or training to others in the department that do same, similar or related work.

Build positive relationships with students, parents and other district personnel

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
No prior experience or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to students, parents, and other employees of the district.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
No special certificate, license or registration is required for this job.
