Frequently Asked Questions
1) I want to take College @ Home courses. How do I get started?
First, obtain an application from the Office of Admissions. Complete and return your application along with a $10.00 non-refundable registration fee. Upon your acceptance to VSCC, the college will contact you with registration information.
2) I receive financial aid. Will financial aid cover C @ H courses? Do these courses count as college credit?
College @ Home courses are credit courses just like classes taken in traditional classrooms; therefore, they are fully covered by financial aid programs.
3) Upon graduation from Vol State, I will transfer to a four-year institution. Are College @ Home courses transferable?
In most cases, College @ Home courses transfer to other institutes of higher education; however, the school to which you transfer makes final articulation decisions. To ensure your College @ Home credit will transfer, contact the school you plan to attend.
4) I work full-time and have a family. Are College @ Home courses right for me?
Since College @ Home courses do not require regular classroom attendance, many students find they are the most convenient way to fit an education into schedules loaded with family- and work-related responsibilities. Students complete their assignments on an independent basis and are only required to attend an orientation session and all scheduled testing dates. Self-motivation is important because each student is responsible for adhering to all course deadlines.
5) Can I take College @ Home courses while attending another university?
Students often take courses at Vol State while attending other universities. However, you must you attend. Contact your advisor to discuss transferability questions.
6) Do College @ Home classes cost the same as traditional classes?
College @ Home courses cost the same as courses taught in classrooms. Please refer to our online catalog for a description of tuition rates.
7) I have a disability that severely limits my mobility. How can I take College @ Home courses?
Depending on the course and instructor, you will have to attend at least 3 testing sessions. Students with special needs can contact the Office of Disability Services. If special accommodations are required, Disability Services will work with you in all reasonable manners.
