Entertainment Media Production

Entertainment Media Production combines several areas with the same purpose: to get students trained and plugged into the entertainment industry in Tennessee. Tracks include concentrations in music production, music business, multimedia and web design, and video production. The technical certificate program is designed for the media workplace.

An advisory board of industry professionals helped to put the program together. Partnerships with entertainment businesses in the area will be an important part of the program for students. The bigger vision behind Entertainment Media Production is to create a college version of Music Row- a set of student teams working together on a music project.

Students work with industry grade equipment in the Vol State digital recording and HD television studios. Web designers will use Adobe design software and perhaps more importantly than any one particular brand, they will learn the fundamentals of coding with HTML and CSS, which will help them understand the foundation of all web design software. The faculty members bring years of experience and many industry connections to the program. Program director Steve Bishir is a five-time Grammy Award winner and has mixed more than 120 number one singles in audio production.

Video Production

Students will learn both technical and conceptual skills for video production. This includes graphic design techniques for the media, television production, digital video editing, field production, lighting and media writing. The Vol State video production facilities include a multicamera high definition studio, high definition field equipment and three digital editing suites.

Music Production

This track prepares students for work in studios and with music industry companies. The subject areas include audio recording techniques, digital audio technology, and audio for multimedia. Courses are designed to round out studio skills with conceptual knowledge, such as musicianship for engineers and media advertising and sales. Students work in the Vol State recording studio anchored by an Avid/Euphonix S5 Fusion digital audio console with Eucon technology.

Multimedia and Web Design

This track is designed to give students the skills they need to work with many different types of software and media. A foundation in web programing, information systems and visual basic provides the background. Graphic design and animation courses give students specific skill areas. Project management helps students to understand the web and graphic design business process. Students work in the college Apple computer lab with a variety of design software.
