I.       Sources for books and videos

• When “Off-Campus,” search the Library Catalog  to locate a variety of materials owned by the library. 

When using the Library Catalog, view resources you have checked out, their due date, and any fines you owe.

• Athena is an easy way to search several Nashville area library catalogs including APSU, Fisk, Nashville Public, TSU, Trevecca, Vanderbilt, at one time.  You can use the online interlibrary loan form to request books for course assignments.  See the interlibrary loan policies on the Library’s web site for more information.

II. Sources for Electronic Resources

• Periodicals    In addition to magazines, journals, and newspapers available in the Library’s periodicals section on the first floor, the Library subscribes to online databases.  These databases have citations, abstracts, and full-text articles from numerous magazines, journals, newspapers, and books.  These databases are not “internet sites.”

• eBooks  VSCC provides access to collections of electronic books

III.    Research on the Internet

The Internet is a self-publishing medium.  Everything you locate on the Internet must be analyzed and evaluated before using it for research.  The Internet is not an online library of evaluated publications.  The search engine recommended and reviewed by librarians for research is www.lii.org (Librarian’s Index to the Internet).
