Professional Experience

Prof. Brown and his wife moved from California to Tennessee in 2007, when he retired after completing over 33 years with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). During the last 25 years of his career with the LAPD, Brown was assigned to the Department's Juvenile Division. He has expertise in the fields of vicarious trauma, child abuse, child homicides, child sexual abuse and exploitation, child interviewing, and suspect interrogation. He has supervised cases of child abuse, child exploitation, and Internet crimes against children. At the time of his retirement, Brown was the Officer-In-Charge of LAPD's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. Prof. Brown has also been a consultant and trainer for the LAPD, California's Peace Officer Standards and Training programs, and the American Prosecutors Research Institute's National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse.
