Volunteer State Community College student Elizabeth Pippin of White House traveled to Argentina last summer for an International Education trip. The education major, a recent graduate currently working on a Tennessee State University degree on the Vol State campus, saw the great need at one of the schools she visited. She came back and this year, along with Vol State Social Science and Education Dean Phyllis Foley, decided to take action. What came about was a Vol State Service Learning project. Service Learning joins academics with community service. A Vol State education class, taught by Susan Brandt, participated, along with the Athletic Department, to collect 135 pounds of school supplies, ranging from crayons and books to jump ropes and gym balls. The material will be sent to Escuela Primaria No. 15 in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
