Medical Informatics is a Vol State academic program combining information technology (IT) and health care. Health care providers use increasingly complex computerized records. A need has arisen for professionals to support those systems. The Medical Informatics program is designed to provide students with the training they need to quickly get into the health care workplace. Possible job titles for graduates could include implementation support specialist, implementation manager, technical and software support staff member and trainer. Generally these fall into three job fields: IT professional, health information management professional and clinical informatician.

Medical Informatics is an associate of applied science degree program. This two-year degree provides many of the courses needed for university transfer. However, it is a career-oriented degree.
