VSCC Student E-Mail Faculty Information
Volunteer State Community College
How do we tell the students to use their e-mail? Tell them to go to the Web site www.volstate.edu/email and follow the instructions.
What will they find there? There are links on this Web page to:
-
Go to student e-mail This will take them to the student e-mail page where they can read and send e-mail.
-
Lookup student username Students will click here to find out what their username is.
-
How to use Outlook Web Access This is a tutorial about using e-mail.
What will a student need to use their e-mail? Students will need their username and PIN to login to the student e-mail system.
How do they find out what their username is? Go to www.volstate.edu/email and click on Lookup student username. Most usernames are the first letter of the first name followed by the last name (such as “JSmith”).
Do they use their username for anything else? Yes. The student’s username also serves as their e-mail name, so “JSmith” has the e-mail address “jsmith@student.volstate.edu”. It’s also used for their My VolState Online account and to access the Thigpen Library’s catalog and databases.
What if they have forgotten their PIN? Call the Records & Registration Office at x3680.
Do students have to be on campus to see their e-mail? No. Students can access their e-mail from any computer that connects to the Internet.
What is the VSCC student e-mail address? The student’s e-mail address will be “username@student.volstate.edu”. A typical student e-mail address would be “jsmith@student.volstate.edu”.
Can I send one e-mail message all of the students in my class without having to type in each student’s address? Yes. A distribution list will be automatically created for all classes. The format is course+section@student.volstate.edu. For example, if you are teaching ACT 201 section 001, then the address to which you would send the e-mail message would be act201001@student.volstate.edu and it would reach every student in that section.
