Foundation Scholarships

The Volunteer State College Foundation is committed to helping students in northern Middle Tennessee achieve their educational goals. Each year, the Foundation supports students by raising funds for campus projects, academic programs, and—most importantly—scholarships. We currently offer over 175 annual and endowed scholarships.

How to Apply for Foundation Scholarships

Before you begin your application, please review the information below. It explains who is eligible, how the process works, and the deadlines you need to know.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for a Foundation scholarship, you must:

  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (some scholarships require higher).
  • Be accepted to Volunteer State Community College and remain in good standing.
  • Complete the 2026–2027 FAFSA.
  • Understand that scholarships are awarded primarily for the academic year (fall and spring). Summer term scholarships are very limited and not awarded until the end of May.
  • Awarded scholarships may only be used for the term that it is awarded.
  • Know that most students may receive only one Foundation scholarship per academic year.
  • Follow all award requirements outlined in your scholarship acceptance email.

The Foundation Scholarship Committee makes the final decisions regarding awards. To keep the review process fair, reviewers do not see applicants’ names or personal information.

Before Your Award Is Final

If you are selected for a scholarship, you will receive an email at your Vol State email address. To finalize your award, you must:

  1. Complete a short questionnaire.
  2. Compose a thank-you letter to your scholarship donor.
  3. Upload a quality photograph (not a selfie).

Failure to complete all three steps will result in the acceptance email being returned for resubmission and slow the awarding of funds.

Maintaining Your Scholarship

Your GPA and credit hours will be checked at the end of each semester. Your scholarship may be rescinded if:

  • Your GPA drops below the required level
  • You do not pass or stay enrolled in enough credit hours
  • You are no longer in good standing with the college

General Application Information

  • The General Application puts you in the running for 100+ Foundation scholarships. Some scholarships have extra questions you may choose to complete.
  • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee receiving a scholarship—funds are limited and the process is competitive.
  • Essays matter! Take your time, explain your situation fully, and check your grammar.
  • Awards may consider funds you receive from other public or private sources. Students receiving more than $2,000 beyond tuition may not be considered.

Important Deadlines

  • Fall 2026 Priority Deadline: June 1, 2026
  • Spring 2027 Priority Deadline: December 15, 2026
  • Summer 2026 Priority Deadline: May 1, 2026 (Limited availability and proof of enrollment required)
  • VSCC Alumni Scholarship Deadline: June 1, 2026
  • John B. Wallace Health Sciences Scholarship Deadline: August 1, 2026

Applications submitted after priority deadlines may still be considered, but awarding begins in June.
