Vol State Students Win at SkillsUSA National Conference

Criminal Justice students from Volunteer State Community College took top honors at the 2023 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.

Vol State students Nicole Fowler, Jasmine Harrison, and Sarai Edwards received Gold for Crime Scene Investigation. Vol State student Hussein Alhawamdeh won Silver in the Criminal Justice section. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization. The purpose is to increase professionalism in the work field through student training; student sessions with potential employers; competitions in educational areas; and scholarships.

The SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference is the largest gathering of America's future skilled workforce. This year, it was held in Atlanta, GA, June 19-23. This event brings together thousands of students, instructors, business partners, and administrators to celebrate the accomplishments of those preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, and it’s an incredible opportunity for students to showcase their talents and skills on the national level.

Bradley Tracy, director of Criminal Justice at Vol State, is the SkillsUSA coordinator for the college. Vol State Criminal Justice instructors come from a wide range of professional law enforcement and legal backgrounds.
