Under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian, successful graduates may perform a variety of tasks including medical, radiology, laboratory and clerical procedures. Volunteer State Community College offers 3 possible study paths related to animal care careers:

Veterinary Assistant Technical Certificate

  • 22 hour certificate completed in a Spring – Fall sequence
  • Path to becoming a non-licensed assistant in the animal care industry

Veterinary Technology – Associate of Applied Science Degree

  • 70 hour limited admittance program
  • Path to becoming Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT)

Pre-Health Professions – (Veterinary Medicine) – Associates of Science degree

  • 60 hour degree to be continued in a bachelor’s degree curriculum at the university
  • Path to becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
