Gallatin, Tennessee – August 21, 2025 – Volunteer State Community College (Vol State) is proud to announce the addition of women’s soccer and women’s volleyball to its athletic program lineup, expected for the 2026-2027 academic year. These new teams will enhance opportunities for student-athletes, expand the College’s athletic presence, and strengthen student life both on and off the field.
Vol State President Dr. Wendi Tostenson shared, “Adding women’s soccer and volleyball is an exciting step forward for Vol State. These programs will create new pathways for student engagement, elevate campus spirit, and provide even more opportunities for our students to excel athletically and academically.”
Recruiting for student-athletes will begin immediately, with both teams set to begin competition in the 2026-2027 academic year. To support this expansion, Vol State is currently in the process of hiring head coaches for each sport and adding an Assistant Athletic Director and a full-time athletic trainer to provide student-athletes with the leadership and support they need to succeed.
Athletic Director Bobby Hudson, who has served Vol State for more than 39 years, emphasized the importance of these additions:
“Our athletic program has always been about giving students the opportunity to compete, grow, and represent Vol State with pride. Bringing women’s soccer and volleyball to our college is not just about expanding sports, it’s about expanding possibilities. These teams, along with the staff we are bringing on board, will help us build on our strong athletic tradition and create a lasting impact for years to come.”
With the expansion, Vol State now offers six sports programs including men's and women's basketball, softball, and baseball, reinforcing the College’s commitment to student success, community engagement, and the power of athletics in higher education.
