Vol State’s Men’s Basketball Program Names Johnny Lynn as New Head Coach

GALLATIN, TN -- Volunteer State Community College’s Athletics Program announces a new head men’s basketball coach for the Pioneers.  For 30 years, Lynn served as the Head Coach for Women’s Fast Pitch Softball at Vol State and coached the program to over 1,040 wins.  During the first half of his 30 years with Vol State, Lynn also assisted the Men’s Basketball team for 14 years and assisted the Women’s Basketball team for 7 years.  Lynn will

The Vol State Pioneer softball team has been practicing hard on the field, and they have one of the most exciting games of the season coming up. Coach Johnny Lynn has been a softball coach for 28 years, and he has a lot to say about the team. “There’s some really good talent in this league,” he said. “And they’re fun to watch.

Player Kemiah Michel said that the whole team is very close. “We’re all pretty together- a big family,” she said. “There’s not a lot of drama, which I love about this team.”

Carter Vrabel Gets Ready for Pioneers Spring Play

The Vol State Pioneers Baseball Team is scheduled to start the spring season on February 11 and despite the chilly weather, the players have been hard at work in practice. A new player, who started this fall, may have a familiar name. Carter Vrabel is the son of Tennessee Titans Football Head Coach, Mike Vrabel. Carter is a transfer from Wabash Valley College in Illinois.

"It just wasn't my spot, Carter said. "I love it here at Vol State, school especially. I like the chemistry we have with the team. I like the teachers, it's more hands-on and in-person here."

Vol State Holds Event for Nichols Softball Complex Naming

Volunteer State Community College held an event recently to officially recognize the naming of the Dr. Warren and Chris Nichols Softball Complex in Gallatin. Warren Nichols was the second president of Vol State, serving from 2003 until 2011. Among Nichols accomplishments as president, he was instrumental in working to get the facility upgraded, including a new press box, bathrooms, and other facilities. The Nichols’ are dedicated Vol State softball fans. The ceremony has been in the works for some time.
