The Pioneer Leaders are an outstanding group of students who assist the Admissions Office with recruitment efforts, lead campus tours, and build connections with prospective students. Students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and a heartfelt dedication to Vol State and the community through their involvement and service are eligible for this special scholarship. The scholarship covers in-state tuition and fees (or any remaining fees not covered by other financial aid) and provides a $2,000 per semester stipend, totaling $4,000 annually. Scholarship cannot be combined with any other VSCC scholarships.
Role and Responsibilities
Pioneer Leaders have the opportunity to develop key leadership and communication skills while giving back to the Vol State community. They work closely with faculty, staff, students, and families, representing the institution at various events. Responsibilities may include:
- Promote the School: Represent Vol State at events such as open houses, college fairs, and recruitment events.
- Give Tours: Lead campus tours for prospective students and their families, providing insight into campus facilities and student experiences. Additionally, help facilitate group tours for middle and high school students, offering a welcoming introduction to the college environment.
- Provide Information: Give presentations about the school, answer questions from prospective students, and offer advice on academic programs and campus life.
- Connect with Prospective Students: Engage with prospective students by answering questions and providing support during their decision-making process.
- Assist with Admissions Office Tasks: Support the Admissions Office with various administrative tasks such preparing materials and call campaigns, when necessary.
- Attend Training: Participate in training and team meetings to stay informed about updates in the recruitment process, ensuring that you can provide the most current information to prospective students and their families.
Eligibility and Commitment
To qualify, you must demonstrate a strong academic record and a commitment to the Vol State community.
- Freshman applicants must have graduated with a 3.6 minimum high school GPA. Non-freshman must have a 2.5 minimum college GPA from an accredited institution.
- Undergo an application and interview process for selection
- Training during the Summer
- Complete 40 hours of service each semester (Fall and Spring)
- Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring)
- Remain in good academic and disciplinary standing with a 2.5 minimum overall GPA.
