October 28, 2025, also known as National First Responders Day, is a day on which we recognize the courageous sacrifice and service our first responders provide. Designed by Congress, the national holiday first debuted in 2019.
However, the movement originated from the six-year advocacy efforts of Andrew Collier. Collier’s brother Sean was a police officer on the scene during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013; Officer Collier lost his life that day. To pay homage to his brother, Andrew Collier began campaigning. His goal was to not only honor his brother's memory but also all first responders.
You can show your appreciation by thanking first responders, supporting their organizations, or looking into what first responder programs we offer here at Volunteer State Community College.
